How do I care for my Sommer Designs Bag?

We strongly recommend spraying fabrics with a protective spray such as Scotch-Guard™, to keep your bag looking clean and new.

Since we use such a wide array of fabrics and each Sommer Designs bag may be made of several different fabric types. There is no hard and fast rule regarding cleaning and most fabrics can be spot treated with mild soap, such as Ivory, and water. Dry cleaning is suggested for overall cleaning and to maintain the integrity of the fabrics. Please advise your dry cleaner with regard to the bags that are made with a hard bottom (Malaga & Miraleste) as that can affect the process. Sommer Designs cannot be responsible for damage due to improper cleaning or misuse.

Are the bags lined?

All of our handbags and purses are fully lined and interfaced with a simple print, and you can rest assured they complement the bags beautifully.

Are the bags reversible?

No, they're just cute! We got that line from a customer, and it's true! We make sure the interior fabrics are just as beautiful as the exterior.

How are your products made?

Wow, that's a loaded question! The short answer is, entirely by hand! The long answers is, we've worked through trial and error to develop our own exclusive patterns. Each handbag, apron and lavender liner is hand cut, and our bags are fully interfaced with the heaviest interfacing available to the trade. The bags are made from the inside out - we do not drop the interior into the exterior and just stitch around the top - and this extra step further ensures the stability and lasting durability of your handbag. All our products are made on an industrial strength sewing machine and we use the heaviest thread we can find for durability and longevity.

Do you have a print catalog?

We consider our website our online-catalog! Since our selections rapidly change, it makes a printed catalog hard to do – it would be outdated before it mailed! This just means you have to bookmark us and check back often! You can also check our blog and bookmark it - that's where we tell everyone what's going on in the Sommer Designs world!

I want to buy a bag as a gift. Can you send it for me?

Yes! When you check out through Etsy, please indicate that this is a gift in the comment section of your order. Be sure to include any text you want, and we will send it directly to your recipient and include a notecard with the order. You will receive an email with your invoice after placing your order. Our items are simply wrapped with tissue & tulle bows.

Where else can I find your bags? OR, I have a store and would like to stock your products.

It is very important for us to be able to offer our line at a reasonable price, while still covering our own production costs. To this end, we have decided to discontinue our wholesale program to keep our product price down.

Where do you get your components? Fabric?

We're sorry, but we do not discuss our sources. We have searched high and low for the best industry resources we could find so we can offer you the very best quality at an affordable price. A good search on Google will result in a bevy of good information. We also recommend a few good websites for starting your own business: Get Crafty, Craftster.org and The Switchboards.

What is your Privacy Policy?

We value and respect your privacy and as such do not sell nor share your information with outside companies or third parties. When you purchase from our online catalog, your order is processed our secure server and we collect your name, billing and shipping addresses, phone number, e-mail address. You provide this information so we can process and ship your order. When you order, you can elect to be added to our email mailing list, which you can opt out of at anytime. We will not sell or share this information. Ever. Even for vast amounts of chocolate.
